How Does It Work?
The necklace works by relieving pain when small amounts of succinic acid in the beads gets into the bloodstream. This happens when the beads warm up as a result of being worn next to the skin. The necklace is supposed to be placed next to the gum and should not be chewed.
The Risks of Using Teething Necklaces
Chocking can result from a bead getting into the airway. The child might get strangled if the necklace tags on something or is very tight. Your baby might injure their gums using this necklace. The necklace also collects bacteria from the environment which can affect your baby's health. Substances found in the beads might get into the child's bloodstream in large quantities if the necklace is chewed and lead to health complications.
Alternatives For Teething Necklaces
If your baby has started eating, give foods with a different texture. Always pat their mouth and chin dry to avoid rashes caused by excessive drooling. Try putting them to sleep during the day if they keep waking up at night. Chewing big plastic and rubber toys also helps. Ask for pain killers from the pediatric dentist if the pain is too much. There are silicon toys and others made of natural rubber that you can wear for the baby to chew.
