What if you could get a high-quality, custom-fitted crown in just one visit? This is where CEREC technology comes in. CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, and it's revolutionizing how we create and place dental crowns.

What is CEREC Technology?

CEREC utilizes advanced computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology. Think of it as a miniature, high-tech milling machine right in the dental office. The process starts with a digital impression of your tooth. Instead of using messy impression materials, we use a small intraoral camera to take detailed 3D images of your mouth. This digital impression is incredibly accurate and comfortable for the patient.

How Does the CEREC Process Work?

The digital impression is then uploaded into the CEREC software. This software allows us to design a custom crown that perfectly fits your tooth and bite. We can adjust the shape, size, and color of the crown to ensure it looks natural and blends seamlessly with your other teeth.

Once the design is finalized, the information is sent to the CEREC milling unit. This unit uses a high-speed diamond bur to precisely carve the crown from a block of high-quality ceramic material. The milling process typically takes about 15-30 minutes, depending on the complexity of the crown.

After the crown is milled, it's carefully checked for fit and accuracy. We then polish and glaze the crown to give it a smooth, natural-looking finish. Finally, the crown is bonded to your prepared tooth using a strong dental adhesive.

What are the Benefits of CEREC Crowns?

There are several advantages to choosing CEREC crowns:

•  Single Appointment: The most significant benefit is the convenience of getting a crown in just one visit. You don't have to wear a temporary crown or schedule a second appointment.
•  Digital Precision: The digital impression and design process ensure a highly accurate and comfortable fit.
•  Natural-Looking Results: CEREC crowns are made from high-quality ceramic materials that closely resemble the appearance of natural teeth. We can match the shade of your crown to your surrounding teeth for a seamless smile.
•  Strong and Durable: CEREC crowns are made from durable materials that can withstand the forces of chewing and biting.
•  No Temporary Crown: Because the crown is made and placed in one visit, there's no need for a temporary crown, which can sometimes be uncomfortable or come loose.
•  Biocompatible Materials: The ceramic materials used in CEREC crowns are biocompatible, meaning they are well-tolerated by the body and less likely to cause allergic reactions.

Is CEREC Right for You?

CEREC crowns are a great option for many patients who need a dental crown. They offer convenience, precision, and natural-looking results. Discuss your specific needs and dental situation with your dentist to determine if a CEREC crown is the right choice for you. They can assess your oral health and explain the benefits and limitations of this technology in your particular case. With proper care and maintenance, a CEREC crown can provide a long-lasting and aesthetically pleasing solution for restoring damaged or decayed teeth.
