It is not uncommon for your mouth to emit an unpleasant odor at times. The same thing happens when you do not brush your teeth after waking up or do not consume anything yet. Almost all of us suffer from this foul odor, which we refer to as bad breath. It is not uncommon for this to occur. It is, however, important to note that if bad breath persists and affects you and others, it should be taken seriously. People with bad breath may find it embarrassing.
Causes of Bad Breath
A dirty mouth encourages bacteria to multiply and grow, resulting in bad breath. The most common cause of bad breath is poor oral hygiene. It is common for food particles and debris to become trapped within our teeth and gums. These are areas in which bacteria proliferate, and if they are not cleaned, they can cause bad breath.
The consumption of foods with strong odors, such as garlic and onions, can cause your mouth to stink. Alcohol consumption and cigarette smoking are also prime suspects. A serious medical condition can cause persistent bad breath that cannot be resolved by good oral hygiene. There are several health problems that are linked to chronic bad breath, including diabetes, liver disease, and kidney disease.
Getting Rid of Bad Breath
You just learned what causes bad breath and what you can do to eliminate it. Generally, hygiene issues can be solved easily. In more complicated cases, a doctor or dentist will be needed. The best way to prevent bad breath is to clean your teeth. Flossing and brushing your teeth prevents tooth decay. Good breath can also be eliminated by rinsing. Use water more frequently. It is better to use mouthwash since it kills bacteria more effectively. The tongue breeds bacteria and is a common source of bad breath. If your tongue isn't clean, you'll notice white or yellowish coats. Don't forget your tongue when brushing your teeth. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to avoid bad breath caused by dehydration.
